[Thanks] Xiaomi 17 Pro Max - xiaomi.eu ROM is great!

Hi guys,

Just wanted to express my gratitude to the people involved into bringing these ROMs to the community during all this time.
For me having the xiaomi.eu ROM has been a deciding factor, because it merges together the best apps and features from CN with the global behavior. So no stupid plain google dialer(just an example), but also no Chinese stuff and strange behaviors for some things.
I've given up getting Xiaomi phones in the last few years because of them locking them down and preventing me from putting the Xiaomi.eu ROM.
Recently I was checking out again the community because I saw the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max had a loophole to be unlocked. So I found a proper device on the market, unlocked and flashed xiaomi.eu ROM.
Amazing!
It's rare these days to enjoy new devices given how much of the same they are, how much of locked down they are and quite frankly how boring they are.

I am happy now and that wouldn't be if it wasn't for your hard work! So thank you guys! :)

I wish you all the best. <3

Glad to see some encouraging words for a change.
Yeah, Xiaomi's restrictions made people lose interest in custom ROMs as they're moving to devices with software that just offers more out of the box.
Can't blame them, frankly, but it raises questions about the future of our project.

I'm more than happy to add additional positive feedback - I've had 4 Xiaomi handsets now; Mi 4C, OG Mi Mix, Mi 11 Ultra and currently a 14 Ultra and the ROMs from here have been a huge part in my choosing to stick with Xiaomi so far
In comparison, I got myself a Xiaomi tablet a couple of years back and the experience isn't nearly as good, because it's either stock CN HyperOS or janky AOSP ROMs

Can't blame them, frankly, but it raises questions about the future of our project.
I hope the community can continue to find solutions and loopholes to allow you guys to carry on your work, it would be an incredible loss if you were forced to stop
It sorta reminds me of alternative Windows shells - back in the days of XP and Vista, you could totally customise the Windows UI with 3rd party software but MS killed all that off unfortunately by removing APIs and closing off elements of the OS

@xchatter if you don't mind me asking, where did you get your 17 Pro Max from and when?

I just read about the exploit the other day and while I'd been weighing up the choice of a Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Oppo Find X9 Ultra or Vivo X300 and having to swallow the frankly insane cost of a global version, the prospect of being able to unlock the bootloader makes the 17 Pro Max an option again

Got it a week ago. I asked a few stores for version, but they all seem to do updates so the software versions were above 3.0.45. So I started looking into those peer-to-peer markets in my country for new or used devices and asked the sellers for the software version. I managed to get a new device with proper version, but I paid 100 EUR above store value(tradingschendzen or wonda). It's worth it. :)
Great device, amazing ROM. I wouldn't have bought it if no xiaomi.eu possible.

Yeah, that's exactly where I am
Now that it's an option again, I'm willing to trade off a but with the cameras (it's still better than my 14 Ultra, per dxomark) for the rear screen - I always missed it when I had to switch from the Mi 11 Ultra to the 14 Ultra

Oh, is that also something I should be looking out for?
I was only looking at the security update - what I'd read said that if it was February 2026 or earlier, it would be fine to unlock

Latest known working version is 3.0.45. There is a good xda thread you can easily find. It is up to date.
Be careful. I had a seller who said "Don't worry mine are not updated. They are on security patch February and they can be unlocked.". It was 3.0.306. I told him that if unlock is possible, I am buying and he was nice enough to try it since he was anyway unlocking some devices, but the unlock failed.
So to be on the safe side, look for 3.0.45 or lower and keep an eye on the thread on xda.

3.0.306 is what TradingShenzhen told me their devices are, which is a shame as they're a) cheaper than anyone else b) pretty quick at shipping and c) I have £20 credit with them from when I bought my 14 Ultra

And the only other place to have replied is GizTop but they told me they'd be able to confirm the security patch etc once I ordered, which is a no-go
Hopefully they reply again to my follow-up query

how do you check if the ROM you are running is xiaomi.eu version or stock global version?
You go to Settings->My Device. It will say "by xiaomi.eu" just below the software version.

P.S.
There is no stock global version of Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The device never launched globally.

yes I am aware. I got the 17 Ultra
I am still on stock ROM but already wiped 3 times so will wait for a bit before flashing EU Rom.

Today I saw a new unlock tool shared on XDA which is supposed to be working on newer HyperOS versions. I haven't tried it yet. Just sharing.

I don't see users reporting results yet.
