Hi All,

I bought Chinese version of Xiaomi 13 and asked for booloader to be unlocked for almost a week now and the tool keep saying can't unlock.

Should I flash the global fastboot rom using mi flashtool or what? I don't remember it takes that long to unlock bootloader :(

I just want to use eu rom

The number of hours remaining should be shown in the unlock tool, the usual unlock time is 168 hours - which is 7 full days.... so "almost a week" is apparently too short ;)

Oh, and you cannot flash any other ROM with the bootloader locked !

Can't remember seeing remaining time. Will double check.
I can't wait to use the phone that's why :D

Can't see remaining hours though. I already added the phone to the account

Hmmm, that looks strange - I need to check with my device and the unlock tool later at home to see how the windows looks like here ....

I logged-in using my Xiaomi account, enable usb-debugging, enabled OEM unlocking and added the device to my account (now it shows under "my devices").
then used the tool to unlock. tomorrow will be the 7th day so hopefully will be unlock-able by then

I think what @deepblue2000 is aiming at is that there is another menu entry under developer options titled "MI unlock status" where you need to activate the unlock device-side before doing so PC/server side with the PC tool.... this is additional to "OEM unlocking" you mentioned, but maybe this is what you mean by "adding the device to your account"....

When I did that for my 13U two days ago it concluded with a green checkmark and the number of hours remaining (168), as written above I'll check later the day and report how it looks like now....

I found another tool that would tell how many hours left.

However, still getting the same message :(

It seems you made a mistake in the bootloader unlocking process. If you have not been given a time, it means that the unlocking process has not started.

Ah! will start the process again and confirm.

To summarise:
- Mobile: Will do factory reset just to make sure starting clean.
- Mobile: Login with mi account
- Mobile: Will enable USB debugging.
- Mobile: Enable OEM unlocking
- Mobile: Check unlock status
- Mobile: Add SIM card, disable wifi and add device to account
- PC: Check on unlocking too.

The only question, does it take long on PC before getting the message ?

Appreciate the help guys

It is bad.
- In the settings, you are "you must not" to sign in to the Mi account.
- You must use mobile data, not WiFi, to sign in to your Mi account.
- You must log in to your Mi account in "Mi Unlock Status".

How to tether your phone to the Mi account:

  1. Start your phone settings, go to Mi Account.
  2. Tap the Sign out button.
  3. Enter your password and click OK. Then go back to the settings list and go to About phone.
  4. Tap the MIUI version tile 7 times until it says You are a developer.
  5. Go back to the settings list, select Additional Settings.
  6. Click on the Developer options.
  7. Move the OEM unlock slider, then tap Mi Unlock Status.
  8. Give all necessary permissions using the Agree button.
  9. Tap the Add account and device to device button.

Interesting! Will make sure to login using mobile data and from "Mi Unlock Status"

Just tried again. Didn't not even sign into wifi to make sure. Added account from mi unlock status and it said added successfully.

Both tools i tried still showing the same message :emoji_sob:

The only thing i can think of is it would take some time to start the unlock process?

I tried with another existing account but still no luck.
Next: wil create new account with new mobile number and see how it goes!
I never had such problem with my previous Xiaomi phones!

Important:Creating a new account on account.xiaomi.com and setting region to US then binding the same number to the new account.

Fixed it!

I was about giving up when I saw this thread https://new.c.mi.com/global/post/101245 in which one of the comments stated that there's ongoing problem with OEM unlocking if your region is set to UnitedKingdom.

I created new account with region set to US and used my UK number to verify and it worked immediately!

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions

I had problems with UK region but preserved. When I finally got it through the unlock app, it showed 6 days, so it actually registered on the first day of trying to start unlock. Since then, completed unlock on Wednesday, rooted using init-boot image and magisk. But even with hide and fingerprint change, I could not get my Lloyds Bank app to not see it being jailbroken. So removed root, locked the bootloader again and will wait for our EU ROM version. Shows able to unlock when needed still in dev options.
I must say that 5g reception is superb. 5g masts are few and far between here on the Somerset Severn estuary. My 12s ultra could not get 5g from here but the 13 ultra picks it up from the beach. Must be getting from across the estuary from Cardiff, that's the closest 5g mast with clear line of site to me.
