TWRP : "could not mount /data and unable to find ***** footer "

Hello,
first of all sorry for my english.
I have a Redmi 5 Plus and I would like to know what is the procedure to make a dev update with the TRWP. When I do a swipe I have the following message among other things "could not mount / data and unable to find ***** footer". I read that it was necessary to make a data format but in this case we lose all the settings of the rom.

I know why!
Because your rom is encrypted. the latest Vince rom were so (I've flashed one 3 weeks ago and discovered this). I don't know why. Anyway that's good for your securuty!
You may deencrypt with TWRP. If not possible you must format and have backup before.

I have a Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus too and I had the same issue and it's not necessary to format data, only flash Orange Fox Recovery:
