Launch custom app for swipe up gesture?

I am wondering and googling a way to add the ability to launch a custom app to the slide up gesture on homescreen. I want to be able to launch Sesame instead of the Google or Global search from Xiaomi.
Is there a way for it without third party launchers and rooting?
