Installing different ROM on the device

Can I install a different ROM on the device? For example: Let's say the F4 device has lost update support. Can I install the rom for F5 on an F4 device via fastboot? Does it give an error or does it install but not work properly? I'm talking about Xiaomi official roms

No, and it won't let you. If you try to force it, your device will be hard-bricked.
