I use online banking and shopping app on my Xiaomi's Redmi SE tablet, and wonder if I need Antivirus on that.I subscribe to Norton to have it on my Windows machine, but is it necessary for HyperOS too?The default security app on the tablet doesn't seem to have auto-scanning like Norton does, say automatically scanning the tablet on 13:00 every day or such, so I'm not quite the default app is enough. It also seems to me like the default security app has limited ability to detect malevolent activities or protection from viruses or malware.

As Norton or any third party security app is known to eat or adversely affect battery(correct me if get it wrong), I'm rather hesitant on installing it on a cheap tablet with a limited resource.Of course common sense usually works very well like only installing safe apps, but mistakes are bound happen; what seems safe at first might turn out to be fragile or even malicious. So I'm not quite sure what to do.What would you do in my shoes?

You don't need to install an antivirus program on Windows 10, 11 (Defender is sufficient) and certainly not on Android.
All you need is average intelligence and not to click on everything thoughtlessly.

I'm typically quite cautious about what to click. So you mean HyperOS's default security app, which I assume is a sort of rebranded edition of avast, would work fine just as Windows Defender does on WIndows? I read this article, which says Android needs antivirus and made me come to think something might be necessary for Android-based OS, but if the default app does its job, that's very good:

In fact, even what the system "antivirus" offers is useless. I've been using Android for 16 years and I've never had my device infected with anything.
There's no need to install every piece of crap you see from GPlay. This mainly applies to various games, wallpaper apps, music, etc.
It's your choice whether to install an antivirus or not. ;)
I say it's not necessary and I consider antivirus applications in Android to be basically a "virus". :emoji_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
