MIUI 12 Messaging app bug

Ever since the update to MIUI 12 on my Redmi Note 9S, my messaging app has not been functioning.
It shows "no conversation" whereas the Google message app sees my mags and works well..
please how do I fix this?

I'm using xiaomi.eu ROM. Downloaded it from this platform

Try setting the sms app as default for messages.

Try clearing data of the sms app.
And see if that works.

And could you also tell me the version of the sms app (you can find that in app info of the sms app, same place you also clear the data)

Is your device rooted with magisk?

I've cleared everything possible,
Set it as default messaging app. Still no changes

Tried installing older apks of MIUI messaging app, but Xiaomi.eu ROMs don't allow custom installations.

It's not ironic, that is a good decision by the devs to minimize bugs caused by sideloading incompatible update to apps.

To update system apps, install google installer

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/package-installer/

Then install the messaging apk using Google installer instead of the built-in package installer.

NOTE: you cannot downgrade apps. (Except you have root)

I tried it. It didn't work. Gave an error in TWRP logs.

I just root my.devuce with magisk. How can I go about replacing the app ?

Ok, giv me a minute, I'll make a magisk module with a working version from my sms app.

Install this magisk module and reboot your device
Magisk_MIUI_messaging_xiaomi.eu_12.1.2.68_Installation.zip

And my final suggestion
Boot to twrp
Click "advanced wipe"
Check ONLY "Dalvik / ART Cache" and "Cache"
swipe to confirm wipe.
reboot.
device will take a little longer to reboot as it regenerates cache data. Just be patient.
let's see if that works

Then i believe the problem is not from the "app" So maybe you can continue using Google message and hope a future update resolves this.

Bro, no way this method! Mms.apk crashed too. But I fix it... Need have root! It's simple... Delete file: data/user_de/0/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
And restart phone....
!!! All your messages will be lost, but mms.apk will work ok!
