Update Mi3 Stock With Stable Eu Rom

Hello , could you please give me some advice .

I have to update a mi3 64gb of a friend ( should arrive tomorrow from China ) .
I would like to install the latest stable rom (EU version)
Can I install it from updater (app updater) or I must first merge partitions ? Thank you

last stable 7.1xx is based on KK so you can update directly.
