If Android 9.0 is out, why is my MIUI stable 8.1.0?

Hello,

I'm not sure if I possibly missed something.. but if Android 9.0 is our on Mi 8, how did I end up with 8.1.0 on my Mi 8?

Tried updating on the phone, says its fully updated.. Anyone guide me on how to get the latest? Which download I need?

Will I need to redo everything as well? Or is there a simple update route?

Yeah, you missed something...

You missed that Android 9 isn't officially released for the Mi 8 yet.

I noticed on the stable rom page, it lists the android version as 9.0?

This is where I got confused..
