    I have finally fixed this problem, however it's worth noting that my flavour of the note9 is curtana (aka Indian note9), not joyeuse (aka Global note9). Did this by "upgrading/downgrading" ROM: i.e. upgrading to eu.miui 12.0.6.0.QJWMIXM from 12.0.4.0.RJWMIXM, thus downgrading to Android 10.

    Does the phone need to have root privileges to update system apps? Was your phone rooted when you updated using MiXplorer, Sir Buzz?

    Running MIUI6 latest version, 5.6.11 . Photo does exist in contact list. also, when rolling back to MIUI5 (45.0.0) problem disappears.

    Ran stock recovery (please conform that that IS stock recovery). Getting update.zip not found error. However update.zip does exist, as shown by the screen captures. Any idea what's wrong? Thanks!
