    In my opinion if a factory reset helps then some user adjustments maybe the reason for bootloop. I had a Mi5 also. Update was possible from Android 7 to 8 without any factory reset. So my question, what the different between instalation with or without factory reset.

    ...I get the fastboot image on this site? And the persist.img is the sysem image like recovery.img in TWRP? Sorry formystupid questions. Never tried this before. Had no problems to update my Mi5 from Android 6 to 7 and from 7 to 8. First time for me.
