I updated to the latest stable version 7.2 . The problem that was causing battery drain was at some place the 4G coverage wasn't that good; It was jumping from 4G ro 3G and back. Now when I'm on the road, I switch to fix 3G and the battery can go for at least 2-3 days.

Have you tried to wait for a few minutes, then press the power button and slide to unlock? Normally it take some time to make the 'slide to unlock' function. If TWRP freezes, try long pressing volume up + power button ..., it's should restart the system
