VPN apps work fine for me, even after an update from A11. Try to disable Private DNS (it was set to automatic on my 11 and VPN didn't work at first, the issues were indeed gone after disabling it)

So just use the third party app as workaround? Not great, not terrible.

Is there a way to hide some of the status bar icons such as bluetooth, alarm clock, etc? My usual method (System UI tuner) does not work, adb commads such as "adb shell settings put secure icon_blacklist null" don't work either
