I think you can use the MIUI default recovery. Updater app > three dots top right corner > I used this method. You can do everything you want by searching YouTube for information.

Did you unlock the bootloader? To unlock, you need to flash a developer ROM first. I went from vendor rom to developer rom, unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, then to Xiaomi.eu rom, root and Xposed.

Thanks for taking the time to answer but that doesn't work. It only shows up after a reboot of the phone. The only way to remove it is to swipe right each time.
