Can I ask which version of TWRP you use to flash xiaomi.eu ROMs? So basically, your bootloader remains locked, but you could flash a custom ROM like LineageOS at any time, but switching back to MIUI wouldn't be possible without a full wipe? Once you've flashed MIUI with the custom recovery.img...

When I tried last night, MiFlash reported an error when in fastboot mode, and when in EDL mode, MiFlash wouldn't detect the phone. I'll try again today. Do you have a link with the method of replacing recovery.img? Does this simply unlock the bootloader or does it flash TWRP? EDIT: Nevermind...

Well, I wiped everything except internal storage in TWRP before flashing the latest .eu ROM and SuperSU 2.79 SR3 zip, and after rebooting, it's displayed the Mi splash screen for 15 minutes, so it's not looking promising! Any suggestions? Edit: I've just realised this is the Redmi 3 section...

But that won't happen with xiaomi.eu ROMs, regardless of which TWRP is used? TWRP ZCX is designed to allow OTA updates, so I would imagine that it somehow prevents the bootloader from being locked and TWRP being replaced with stock recovery when flashing official ROMs...

The Mi3 and Mi4 were flagships. Look at the similarly specced Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 3 Pro. They've been out months and the camera is shocking in both. The ZenFone 3's camera is already excellent at launch, according to reviews. You get what you pay for.

I've already flogged mine off and ordered a ZenFone 3. I'm over Xiaomi and its crappy cameras in its Redmi devices.

Assuming your phone is rooted, you might consider downloading and installing xMIUI, which is an Xposed module. Amongst other things, you can change the icons in the status bar to AOSP style and you can customise the size of icons and text in the status bar. I can't post links here yet, but...
