You might want to try it few times.

Means that current mirror link is down, kill app and try again it will use different mirror.

You might want to kill app and retry. To load different mirror link.

Kill updater app or simply reboot few times, the toast shows up once a mirror link is down.

Go to Settings > Statusbar & notifications > Battery meter, select 2nd style.

7.9 was latest at the time your stable was rolling out, any later build contains fixed updater, so no worries :)

Good, so I would just follow what @EnormoDerClown said. Reflash TWRP with latest one, cause in some cases such update is necessary to move forward with updates.
